Nurturing Infant Care for Ages 3–12 Months

At Juniperhaven Preschool, our Infant Room is designed to feel like a home away from home. We welcome babies starting at 3 months old and care for them until they are developmentally ready to transition.

We maintain a 1:4 teacher-to-child ratio, with no more than 8 infants in the classroom at one time. Our teachers are trained in safe sleep, infant CPR, and early childhood development. Juniperhaven is a licensed certified center.

Our top priority is to ensure that every infant feels safe, seen, and loved each day through gentle routines, warm interactions, and consistent care from trusted adults.

A Play-Based Curriculum Tailored for Infants

We don’t believe in rushing milestones, rather we honor each baby’s unique pace. Our play-based philosophy means infants explore their world through sensory-rich materials, curiosity-driven discovery, and age-appropriate activities.
In our Infant Room, we use:

  • Lovevery® toys for object permanence, fine motor skills, and cause-and-effect play
  • A baby gym with a ballet bar and Pikler climber for safe gross motor exploration
  • Cozy corners for books, mirrors, music, and visual stimulation
  • Gentle routines like songs, rhymes, and sensory play woven into the natural rhythm of the day

All activities are spontaneous and child-led, grounded in the belief that play is the best teacher.

Safe Sleep and Feeding Practices

Infants nap on their own schedule and are fed on demand. Our teachers follow state-approved safe sleep practices, including back sleeping and individual cribs or pack-and-plays.Babies at this facility nap on demand and are fed on demand with provided labeled formula or breast milk. Naps occur in a quiet, dimly lit space with white noise, and families can provide sleep sacks or personal blankets for children over one year old. All sleep practices adhere to state safe sleep guidelines, including babies sleeping on their backs in individual cribs or pack-and-plays.

Daily Updates Through the Lillio App

We know how important it is to stay connected to your baby’s day. That’s why we provide real-time updates through the Lillio app, including:

  • Bottle feeding times and amounts
  • Diaper changes
  • Nap duration
  • Observations and moments of joy

This transparency keeps you informed and helps foster trust and consistency between home and school.

Building Early Communication and Emotional Security

Our teachers use American Sign Language (ASL) to help babies begin communicating before they speak. Infants learn simple signs like:

  • “All done”
  • “More”
  • “Please”
  • Fun signs like “tiger” and “friend” as play emerges

We guide infants through co-regulation, offering soothing words, a calm presence, and warm, responsive interactions. Our approach is rooted in Conscious Discipline, ensuring even our youngest students are nurtured through connection, not correction.

What to Bring for Your Infant

To help us care for your baby with ease, please bring:

  • A week’s worth of diapers
  • Diaper cream, labeled with name
  • 4–5 bottles, labeled and dated daily
  • 2 complete changes of clothes, labeled in ziplock bags
  • A blanket (for over 1 year) or sleep sack (optional)
  • Any items needed for comfort or special care

Please label all personal belongings clearly.

Smooth Transitions and Developmental Readiness

Your infant will remain in the Infant Room until they are developmentally ready to move into our One’s Room. Most children transition in September after their first birthday, or earlier if a spot becomes available and your child is ready. We take emotional, social, and physical readiness into account to ensure a positive and gentle transition.
